View RecordsCompare an LVMPD SCOPE record with a Nevada state-history request, and distinguish Las Vegas, New Mexico services before arranging a background check.
Before requesting a background check, identify which Las Vegas you mean and what record product is required. Las Vegas, Nevada uses LVMPD SCOPE for an LVMPD local background record. It covers arrests and incidents within LVMPD jurisdiction and is not a statewide or nationwide clearance.
If the request concerns Las Vegas, New Mexico, use the New Mexico route instead. A Nevada request does not answer the same jurisdiction question.
Ask the organization receiving the result which report it accepts, how recent it may be, the delivery method, and any applicant instructions before paying for a record that may not satisfy the requirement.
LVMPD SCOPE is a self-record request for LVMPD background information. LVMPD provides request routes through the Records and Fingerprint Bureau, online requests, mail requests, and area commands within LVMPD jurisdiction. Area commands do not accept cash payments.
For online requests delivered online or by U.S. mail, LVMPD requires a notarized letter together with a copy of a valid, unexpired government-issued photo identification to confirm identity. For requests submitted by post, the LVMPD mail request form requires a notarized requester signature and notarized photocopy of valid unexpired government-issued photo identification. The postal request is sent to LVMPD, Attn: Correspondence Section, 400 S. Martin Luther King Boulevard, Building C, Las Vegas, NV 89106, with exact payment included.
The current LVMPD Service Fees schedule effective July 1, 2026 lists the SCOPE background check fee as $13. Postal applications require the exact $13 money order or cashier’s check payable to the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department according to the mail request instructions. Older FAQ material contains different pricing references, so the current service-fee schedule controls payment confirmation.
Keep the request confirmation and review the returned record using its stated scope. LVMPD states that SCOPE information is limited to arrests and incidents within LVMPD jurisdiction and is a self-record product. It is not a statewide or nationwide criminal-history product. If another agency maintains the incident record, use that agency’s record route.
An LVMPD SCOPE record, a Nevada statewide criminal history request, and New Mexico record or applicant-screening products answer different questions. Choose the product based on the state, agency, and purpose of the request.
Nevada statewide criminal history requests are handled through the Nevada Criminal History Repository. A manual own-history request uses the current DPS-006 process and an original FD-258 rolled ten-print fingerprint card completed, signed, and dated by a certified technician. The manual packet requires the required payment method and is the route used for requests sent from outside Nevada. Electronic submission is available only from inside Nevada. Nevada criminal history records are Nevada records only and do not include records from other states or the FBI.
The current Nevada manual request instructions require $27 per applicant by exact money order or certified check, with no cash or personal checks for this request route. Mail the completed packet to Nevada Department of Public Safety, Records, Communications and Compliance Division, 333 West Nye Lane, Suite 100, Carson City, NV 89706. Use the current official repository packet rather than treating an LVMPD SCOPE record as a statewide history search.
Keep the repository request confirmation and review the returned record using its stated scope. Nevada statewide history, LVMPD local SCOPE, and other agency background products are separate records. Correction requests follow the Nevada repository process for Nevada-originated information; records from other jurisdictions require the appropriate custodian.
New Mexico uses a separate state process. A person may request their own New Mexico arrest-record information or use an authorized agent route when permitted. The New Mexico Department of Public Safety release process requires a complete, legible, notarized Authorization for Release of Information with the original signature. The fee is $15 per record check by money order or cashier’s check payable to the New Mexico Department of Public Safety. Mail the release request to DPS, P.O. Box 1628, Santa Fe, NM 87504-1628, Attn: LERB Customer Engagement Team. This New Mexico release route is not the Nevada product.
New Mexico applicant screening is a separate process from an individual arrest-record release. NMAPS is the New Mexico Applicant Processing Service for applicant state and federal fingerprint screening. Start with the requesting agency or employer instructions to obtain the correct service requirements, including the applicable service code or ORI when required. Use the current New Mexico DPS fingerprinting and background-check route to register and schedule through the authorized IdentoGO New Mexico enrollment process. Bring the required identification and pay the fee required for the specific agency or service; do not apply a generic background-check price to every applicant screening request.
Las Vegas, New Mexico police reports are a separate local service. The Las Vegas Police Department directs report pickup through its Records Department by appointment at 505-425-7504 ext. 4201. A local police report should not replace a state criminal-history product or an applicant screening product.
For an LVMPD local record, use LVMPD's SCOPE process. For Nevada statewide history, use the Nevada repository route. For a New Mexico request, use the applicable New Mexico agency.
If information appears incorrect, the correction route depends on the agency or repository that maintains the record. Keep the issued record, request details, and agency scope information when asking questions about the result.
